The status of a recreation area/tourist destination forms the legal basis for the collection of a spa tax, which constitutes a significant contribution to the maintenance, creation, acquisition, expansion, improvement, renewal and maintenance of various tourist services. The spa tax is legally earmarked and may only be used for tourist purposes. The payment of the spa tax is independent of whether the facilities are used or not.
With your spa tax, for example, our events, beach cleaning, maintenance of cycling and hiking trails, public toilets, green spaces, our city information service, free Wi-Fi service, lifeguards from the German Life Saving Association (DLRG) and proportionally also the "Uwe Johnson" House of Literature are financed.

The spa tax is collected throughout the year.
Where is the spa tax collected?
The spa tax is collected in the city of Klütz in the districts of Klütz, Arpshagen, Christinenfeld, Goldbeck, Grundshagen, Hofzumfelde, Kühlenstein, Niederklütz, Oberhof, Tarnewitzerhagen, Steinbeck and Wohlenberg.
Who is obligated to pay the spa tax?
Day and overnight guests as well as second-home owners are obligated to pay the spa tax.
How much is the spa tax?

The spa tax is levied based on the duration of the stay. It amounts to € 1.50 per person aged 16 and above per day. The spa tax for an annual spa card is € 42.00 per person aged 16 and above.

Is there a discount available?
  • Holders of a disability card with a degree of disability of 50 or more pay € 1.00 per day.
  • Accompanying persons of severely disabled individuals with a B mark on their disability card also pay € 1.00 per day.
  • The reduced rate for an annual spa card is € 28.00 per person.
Who is exempt from the spa tax?
  • Children up and including 15 years old.
  • Individuals with primary residence in Klütz.
  • Persons working in the collection area.
  • Holders of a disability card with a degree of disability of 100 and their accompanying person (mark B on the severely disabled person's pass).
Where do I obtain my spa card?
  • As an overnight guest, you will receive your spa card from your holiday rental owner.
  • As a day guest, you can obtain day spa cards from the beach's ticket machines, through the Mobilet app, or at the city information centre.
Do I get a refund of the spa tax if I leave early?

In case of illness, accident, or death, the excess spa tax paid will be refunded by the City of Klütz, c/o Amt Klützer Winkel, Schloßstr. 1, 23948 Klütz. The refund is only made to spa cardholders upon returning the spa card, on the back of which the accommodation provider has certified the departure of the spa guest. This claim expires 14 days after departure.

Please always carry your spa card with you. Your spa card is non-transferable and is valid in all districts of the city of Klütz.

With your spa card, you enjoy numerous benefits. Facilities offering discounts are marked with our seal. 
From your landlord, you will receive your spa card and a flyer titled "Gästeinformationen - Erholungsort Klütz' with a "stamp collection booklet".

When visiting a facility, please present your spa card and the flyer to receive the discount/benefit. Have your visit confirmed on the flyer with a stamp. Once all stamp fields are filled, present the flyer/stamp booklet and your spa card at the Stadtinformation Klütz (tourist information center) receive a small surprise.

The discount/benefit is only granted once per person and only upon presentation of the spa card.

Klütz is a town in the district of Nordwestmecklenburg in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (Germany). It is administered by the Amt Klützer Winkel. Since July 4, 2022, the town of Klütz and the districts of Wohlenberg and Oberhof have been recognized as state-approved recreational resorts, while the entire town of Klütz with its 11 districts has been designated as a tourist resort since December 16, 2022. Situated in the picturesque Klützer Winkel between the Hanseatic cities of Lübeck and Wismar, the municipal area stretches from Wohlenberg with its long sandy beach to Steinbeck with its impressive cliff coast. Klütz is particularly known for the Baroque castle Bothmer, which has been restored according to old original plans, with its imposing avenue of festoons.
